history:
Distant Yearning Alert. Simply put, while quoting Robert Fripp, Distant Yearning Alert is actually "a way of doing things." The things themselves represent the creative activities conducted under the moniker Distant Yearning Alert. From 2002 to 2007, these activities ranged from producing a variety of experimentation with sounds, noises, samples, and whatnots to performing happening art and reciting poems. Nevertheless, the musical activities usually took a backseat, playing their own part. Some of the materials ended up being used as backing tracks for performances of poetic interpretations and improvisations. Some became the soundtracks and scores of a handful of very low-budget independent films. Some were rearranged into background music for at least two theatrical productions. Some never saw the light of day, erased and forgotten. Some that survived, are revived, and are newly composed can be accessed here.
The recent musical outputs of Distant Yearning Alert represent the constantly changing musical concept of Sandya Maulana, the sole member of Distant Yearning Alert. Nevertheless, one idea remains unchanged. Distant Yearning Alert strives to produce music without leaving Sandya Maulana's room. Thus, the music produced reflects the mixed emotions, the madness, melancholy, and merriment within the confines of the room. Time and again, Distant Yearning Alert is faced with the certain limitations of the room environment. However, over the years, Distant Yearning Alert has found out that this never matters. What matters is the exercise, the process of creation. Distant Yearning Alert is simply a way of doing things. How about the results? Well, they are entitled to your opinions.
